District Facilities Project

After the successful passage of Issue 112, the district’s combined permanent improvement levy and bond issue in November 2016, the district Facilities Advisory Committee (FAC) moved forward with the selection of the Owner’s Representative and Construction Manager-at-Risk for the project. Working closely with the selected architectural firm, The Architectural Vision Group, the FAC, school administrators, teachers, and students, provided input in the needs assessments and planning. With a projected 2020 full completion, the project includes renovations and upgrades to Mayer Middle School, Fairview High School, and Parkview Early Education Center as well as minor updates to Gilles-Sweet Elementary.

Most Frequently Asked Questions

After voter approval in November 2016, there will be about a year’s worth of planning and preparation, then the actual renovation, including some targeted demolition and construction will take approximately 3 years to complete. The timeline and phasing of the project has yet to be solidified, but first major on-site work would likely be around the spring of 2018 with a projected completion date in spring of 2020.

With the approval of a scheduled renewal levy in 2018 (no new taxes), there will be no anticipated needs for additional operating funds until 2020 or beyond. A community promise was made in 2006 that there would be no requests for additional operating funds for 5 years. We’ve now extended that promise now going on 11 years. The newly voted funds would also assist in stretching our current operating dollars as costly repairs would be paid for from the bond and permanent improvement.

Modular classrooms are conducive to teaching and learning. Those used will be climate controlled and easily accessible from the main buildings–no streets to cross with them in the parking lot. They will be adequately wired to support technology and have provisions for student work stations, versatile furnishings, and projection.
