gillessweetGilles-Sweet Elementary School is the newest campus in the Fairview Park City School District. The school opened its doors to students and staff in August 2007. The first- through sixth-grade campus averages over 700 students.

The school is named after two World War I soldiers from Fairview Park, Frederick A. Gilles and John H. Sweet. The building has 32 classrooms, all equipped with the latest technology. In addition, there are two music rooms, two art rooms, two gyms, a computer lab and cafetorium. A beautiful display of windows in the library looks out onto a courtyard with benches and trees.

Extracurricular activities are available for students to participate in, such as: sixth grade technology club, band, choir, orchestra and more.

One-to-One Computer Initiative

In the fall of 2010, the Fairview High School freshman class was the first class to receive a laptop computer from the school district. During the same school year, the board approved to purchase more computers for fifth and sixth graders at Gilles-Sweet Elementary. Starting the 2012-13 school year, every fifth- through twelfth-grade student will have access to a laptop computer. Students in fifth through eighth grade will use their computers to complete assignments, create projects or take tests throughout the school day, but leave them at school at the end of the day. High school students will use their computer in the classroom and at home for their studies. Upon graduation, students will be able to purchase their computer for $1.
