Fairview Park Community Read

Summer offers many people an opportunity to slow down, enjoy some warmer weather, plan family getaways, and recharge. It is also a great time to curl up with a good book, in your backyard or on a beach.

I invite families to participate in a summer reading of the book The Amazing Generation by Jonathan Haidt and Catherine Price. This book is Jonathan Haidt’s follow-up to The Anxious Generation, where he looks at the impact that cell phones and social media have on children.

This book is geared towards pre-teens, but can be read by anybody who cares about supporting the mental health and well-being of young people. It is part graphic novel, part testimonial, and most importantly, a call to action.

The Amazing Generation encourages students to reflect on the role technology plays in their lives and challenges them to rediscover the real world around them by putting their phones down and rediscovering the value of friendship, the importance of physical activity and play, the beauty of nature, and the power of human connections.

Copies of The Amazing Generation will be available for checkout locally at the Fairview Park branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library.
