FAIRVIEW PARK CITY SCHOOLS 6-12 LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM REVIEW
ALL-CALL FOR MEMBERS
As a follow-up to the June 11 regular Board of Education Meeting, the Fairview Park City Schools is seeking volunteers interested in participating on a committee to review various learning management systems that can be used in grades 6-12. The first task for the committee will be to make a recommendation to the Board of Education what implementation timeline to follow.
Committee sign-up: June 19 – June 28, 2019
Initial meeting: Tuesday, July 9 at 7:00pm in the Gilles-Sweet Cafetorium
Meeting: Thursday, July 11 at 7:00pm in the Gilles-Sweet Cafetorium
Meeting: Monday, July 15 at 7:00pm in the Gilles-Sweet Cafetorium
Presentation at July Regular Board Meeting: Monday, July 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Gilles-Sweet Cafetorium… This is a NEW date (so all five board members can attend)
Additional meetings: As needed – as determined by the Board/Committee
The frequency, dates, times, and locations of committee (and possible sub-committee) meetings can be determined collectively once the group assembles. There are MANY considerations for whatever path the committee chooses. The summaries below are only initial thoughts. Additional discussions will occur in upcoming meetings.
All meetings of the committee will be posted and advertised as Special meetings/work sessions of the Board of Education so all Board members may attend and participate as desired in accordance with Ohio’s “Sunshine Laws”.

IMPLEMENTATION TIMELINE OPTIONS
Three implementation timelines as discussed during the June 11 Board meeting.
OPTION 1: Fall change Process – Revert back to using Google Classroom in the fall of 2019
OPTION 2: One-year Process – Possible new implementation in fall of 2020
OPTION 3: Two-year Process – Possible new implementation in fall of 2021
The committee is free to modify and/or combine options as deemed appropriate.
KEY CRITERIA (Draft… in no particular order)
Ability of system to integrate with district Student Management System: PowerSchool
Teacher – Parent – Student “usability”
Annual cost of subscriptions/purchase price
Frequency and cost of updates/tech support
Availability and cost of training
Availability and cost of ongoing support using the system beyond initial training
Teacher ability to modify instruction and assessment as needed to support differentiation
Alignment with strategic plan focus of supporting project-based learning, personalization, and teacher feedback
Data management and reporting (for teachers, administrators)
Accessibility and viewing access to curriculum, student progress, and teacher feedback for students and parents
The committee will review, add to, and prioritize these criteria as part of their work.
In addition to meeting the criteria above, the recommended system must effectively support the following three goals from the district strategic plan and previous district initiatives and training:
- Frequent, high quality formative assessment and teacher feedback
- Standards aligned, competency-based grading
- Well-designed and executed project-based learning opportunities
