It is with great sadness that the Fairview Park City Schools mourns the loss of former Superintendent, Dr. John Babel, Jr., who passed away Monday, April 4th.  Dr. Babel was Fairview’s third superintendent serving from 1979-1992.  During his tenure, the technology infrastructure and capacity of the district was dramatically upgraded.  He developed the concept for the Team for Educational Excellence (TEA) and Partners in Education (PIE) Labor-Management Teams, which are still functioning today.   He established close relationships with the Fairview PTAs and was an active liaison with many Fairview community groups.  He exuded a positive attitude through even the most challenging times and was well known for his thoughtfulness in approaching problems with a calm and gentle demeanor.

Dr. Babel received his Ph.D. degree from Ohio State University and his M.A. and B.S. degrees from Cornell University.  He was an Army veteran and past member of the American Association of School Administrators, Buckeye Association of School Administrators, the National Society for the Study of Education and Phi Delta Kappa, an international association of professional educators.  He served as the Chairman of the Ohio School Councils and President of the Greater Cleveland School Superintendents Association in 1992-1993 and was very active in the West Shore Rotary Club for many years.

Please keep him and his entire family in your thoughts and prayers.  His warm smile, contagious laugh, kind heart and giving spirit will be truly missed by many.
