TURKEY TROT

Dear parent/guardian,

On Friday, November 17, 2017, the students and staff at Gilles-Sweet Elementary School will participate in our annual Turkey Trot.  This year in addition to collecting food items for the Fairview Park Hunger Center, our PTA will be collecting pledges. These pledges will help our PTA continue to offer and support the many terrific programs we have here at Gilles-Sweet.  Although pledges are not mandatory, they are greatly appreciated.

The 2017 Turkey Trot schedule is as follows:

8:45-9:10 AM*               Turkey Trot Run/Walk:         First grade

9:20-9:50 AM*               Turkey Trot Run/Walk:         Second grade

10:05-10:35 AM*            Turkey Trot Run/Walk:         Third grade

12:45 PM                       Turkey Trot Run/Walk:            Fourth grade

1:15 PM                        Turkey Trot Run/Walk:              Fifth Grade

*Please Note:  These are approximate starting times.

The Turkey Trot begins and ends at Gilles-Sweet. We encourage every student to participate.  However, we have arranged an alternate activity for those students who choose not to run or walk. Please remember, students do not have to RUN – they can WALK if they choose. We suggest that each student bring a water bottle on Turkey Trot day and dress appropriately for the weather.  The Turkey Trot will only be cancelled if there is heavy rain or snow.

The entry fee for the Turkey Trot is one (or more) canned food item that can be turned in to the classroom teacher. Any student who is unable to bring in a canned food item will still be able to participate.  No student will be allowed to participate in the Turkey Trot without a signed permission slip.  Permission Slips are due no later than Wednesday, November 15, 2017.

Prizes are as follows:

  • Turkey: First place boy and girl in each grade
  • Gift Cards:First, second, third, fourth, and fifth place boy and girl in each grade.
