Make sure you rent your instrument from a reputable dealer.  Do not purchase an instrument from online sites or big box stores that sell tires and/or underwear.
Watch these videos to learn how to measure your 5th grader to get the correct sized instrument.
  • Violins and Cellos come in 4/4 (full) size, 3/4 size, 1/2 size, and 1/4 size.
  • Violas come in inches 15″ (typical high school size), 14″, 13″ (most common for 5th grade), and 12″.

Instrument Pick Up (in Gilles-Sweet FRONT parking lot):

Fri, Sept 25th from 4-7 p.m
  • If you already have an instrument, you still need to come to this event so I can set it up. I need to put fingering tapes on the neck, a pinkie house on the bow, and tune it for you so your 5th grader is ready for remote learning! Please order the method book from the rental stores for delivery to GS.
  • Bass players will pick up a school bass at this event! No bass players need to rent their own.
  • When we return to in-person school, cello players will be assigned a school cello to use at school. The rented cello can stay home for practicing. No transportation of the cello is needed.
  • Method Book Needed: Sound Innovations Book 1 for Violin, Viola, Cello, or Bass (included with most rental programs)

Please contact Mrs. Needham with any questions about measuring. [email protected]k12.oh.us

Make sure you rent your instrument from a reputable dealer.  Do not purchase an instrument from online sites or big box stores that sell tires and/or underwear. We have used the following local music companies:  Rettig Music in Westlake or Educator’s Music in Lakewood.  Both companies will deliver the instruments to the school as well as anything you need to order (reeds, valve oil, cork grease, etc.).
Instrument Pick Up (in Gilles-Sweet FRONT parking lot), Fri, Sept 25th from 4-7 p.m
  • If you already have an instrument, take it to a reputable repair shop to have it inspected and serviced if needed.
Students need to have the TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE Book 1 for class.  Make sure that you get the correct instrument.  Be aware, there is another book with a similar name.  Think TOE when you purchase it.
