Make sure you rent your instrument from a reputable dealer.  Do not purchase an instrument from online sites or big box stores that sell tires and/or underwear. Instruments rented from the stores above will be delivered to GS. Mrs. Needham will set up each instrument so it is ready for class. After the first class, your child will bring the instrument home.

  • If you already have an instrument, you need to bring the instrument to school so I can set it up. I need to put fingering tapes on the neck, a pinkie house on the bow, and tune it for you so your 5th grader is ready for class! Please order the method book from the rental stores for delivery to GS.
  • Bass players must complete this INSTRUMENT USE FORM to use a school bass! No bass players need to rent their own.
  • Cello players will be assigned a school cello to use at school. The rented cello can stay home for practicing. No transportation of the cello is needed. Please complete this INSTRUMENT USE FORM to use a school cello at school.
  • First Day with Instruments: September 22nd, 23rd, or 24th
  • Method Book Needed: Sound Innovations Book 1 for Violin, Viola, Cello, or Bass (included with most rental programs – be sure to check)

Violins, Cellos, and Basses come in 4/4 (full) size, 3/4 size, 1/2 size, and 1/4 size.

Violas come in inches 15″ (typical high school size), 14″, 13″ (most common for 5th grade), and 12″.

Please contact Mrs. Needham with any questions about measuring. [email protected]

Make sure you rent your instrument from a reputable dealer.  Do not purchase an instrument from online sites or big box stores.  We have used the following local music companies:  Rettig Music in Westlake or Educator’s Music in Lakewood, or Royalton Music in North Royalton.  All companies will deliver the instruments to the school as well as anything you need to order (reeds, valve oil, cork grease, etc.).

  • If you already have an instrument, take it to a reputable repair shop to have it inspected and serviced if needed.

Students need to have the TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE Book 1 for class.  Make sure that the book you get is the correct instrument.  Be aware, there is another book with a similar name.  Think “TOE” when you purchase it.

Please contact Mr. Cibulskas with any questions at [email protected]
