On Monday, May 15, Fairview High School honored its varsity student-athletes at the 2023 Athletic Awards Night. This awards night honors FHS students for their accomplishments in both athletics and academics at the school, conference, and state levels.

“It’s really two different hats the kids are wearing during the year,” Athletic Director Joe Dianetti expressed. “They are wearing their student hat during the day and putting on their athlete hat at night. When you have an athlete that’s high achieving in both categories, that’s quite the accomplishment.”

There were a number of different categories a student could be recognized. According to Dianetti, some of the most important recognitions from the evening included the awards from the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) and the National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS). 

“The kids who receive those awards received them were nominated by their coaches and then further set themselves apart based on their body of work,” Dianetti said. “There is one male and one female for each of those awards. They are truly the best of the best of those types of awards. They take all of our high-level athletes, and those are the ones who rose to the top of that group.”

The ceremony also recognizes the Athlete of the Year at Fairview High School, as nominated by the coaches and teachers at the school. In addition, the school recognized adults who positively impact Warriors athletics with the Coach of the Year and Exemplary Service Award.

For Dianetti, the Athletic Award ceremony is a proud moment for him to recognize students who he has come to know over numerous years and who have sacrificed much to represent their school across the state.

“I’m very proud,” Dianetti added. “These are the kids that put in the work day in and day out. It’s a culmination of all of their work on the court and on the field. It really shows, especially the ones that are at that all-state or all-district level, that their hard work has paid off.”
