Statement regarding FEMA Emergency Alert Test scheduled for October 4, 2023

On October 4, 2023, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has scheduled a nationwide test of emergency alert systems at 2:20 PM. This nationwide test includes television, radio, and cell phone emergency alert capabilities.

At approximately 2:20 PM tomorrow, all cell phones should receive one test alert message as part of this test. The message will include “THIS IS A TEST of the National Emergency Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” This test will also include sounds and alarms on most cell phones, similar to an Amber Alert.

Because this test will be conducted during the school day, some students in our buildings may become concerned. We hope it will only be a brief distraction in classrooms. Students will be safe, and business will continue as normal.

This evening, please consider discussing the FEMA test with your child(ren) and the importance of emergency preparedness.
