Archie Griffin Award WinnersMay 26, 2023

On Thursday, May 25, eighth graders at Mayer Middle School were recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom, on the field, and as a part of the middle school community.

Congratulations to all the eighth graders who received awards in the following categories:

  • Math
  • Social Studies
  • Orchestra
  • Choir (Fred Waring Choral Award)
  • English Language Arts
  • STEM Warrior
  • Art (Best in Show Award)
  • Science Stars

These other awards were also given to deserving eighth grade students:

  • The Gayle Dill Book Worm Award is given to students who go above and beyond in the category of reading. Mrs. Dill was a longtime member of the staff here at Fairview Schools and we want to carry on her legacy of being life-long readers.  This was important to her and she instilled the love of reading to her students and her family.
  • The World In Your Hands Award is presented to students who show their teachers that they have a bright future ahead of them.  This has been a long-standing tradition here at Fairview. It shows the recognition of students who are well-rounded and have a drive or passion to do something great with their lives.  We see their unlimited potential.
  • The Archie Griffin Award is designed to promote sportsmanship, ethics and integrity both in the classroom and as an athlete.
  • The Lewis F. Mayer Award This award is given each year to an outstanding eighth grader who has shown the many fine qualities displayed by Mr. Mayer. These qualities include courteousness, thoughtfulness, concern for others, enthusiasm, a positive attitude, and outstanding scholastic achievement.

Congratulations to all the award winners!
