After guest conducting the Mayer Middle School concert band’s rendition of “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” at the Fairview Park City Schools Holiday Concert on Saturday, December 10, Superintendent Dr. Bill Wagner was surprised with a special honor. The Ohio Music Education Association presented him with the 2017 “Outstanding Administrator” award for the state of Ohio.
Dr. Wagner was nominated by Hillery Needham, Orchestra Director, as well as other district music staff including Chrissy Karliak, Anne Howe and Peter Cibulskas.
“Dr. Wagner has single-handedly changed the appearance and community perception of the district to have a strong music education program from Kindergarten through 12th grade in general music, choral, orchestra, and band,” said Needham. “While many districts across the state are having to cut music, he has helped to efficiently expand music offerings and has invested in music teacher positions, equipment, and instruments.”
President-Elect Kathy McGrady announced OMEA’s Board of Trustees decision.
“I’m honored to be here. This is beautiful,” she said. “Music education is surely alive in Fairview.”
Dr. Wagner will also be recognized at OMEA’s Professional Development Conference in February.
